Introduction of department

The neonatal intensive care unit opened on February 18, 2014, and currently, a total of 31 beds are actively operated.

The neonatal intensive care unit of Kyungpook National University Children's Hospital has equipped with ventilators and incubators for ultra-extremely low-weight babies to focus on treating premature babies. In addition, high-frequency ventilation therapy and nitrogen inhalation treatment are available for children with severe respiratory diseases and neonatal pulmonary arterial hypertension. Hypothermic treatment is also being implemented for patients at risk of ischemic brain damage caused by neonatal asphyxia.

In addition, through regular meetings with obstetrics and gynecology, sufficient pre-delivery preparation and quick post-delivery treatments are carried out for high-risk mothers.

Surgery for Arterial duct patency, retinopathy, and surgical diseases of premature infants are performed in the neonatal intensive care unit without moving to the operating room through cooperation between thoracic surgery, ophthalmology and pediatric surgery.
